NONGSTOIN, March 21: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), West Khasi Hills unit, on Monday sent back unregistered labourers and, at the same time, cast aspersions on Labour department for reportedly failing to check the entry of labourers who do not posses valid documents.
The KSU had given a 10-day deadline to the Shakambari Ferro Alloys Pvt Ltd for procurement of valid documents from Labour department for its workers.
The KSU, following the end of the deadline, on Monday carried out an inspection only to find 39 labourers allegedly working without valid documents.
It was after this, the alleged illegal labourers were sent back.
Meanwhile, the KSU has also condemned the Labour department and labour inspectors for not being able to check the entry of illegal workers.
It has also suggested inclusion of police verification of the applicants who apply for work permit.a
