Meghalaya trade unions to partake in two-day strike

SHILLONG, March 22: The Meghalaya Joint Council of Trade Unions & Associations (MJCTU&A), the apex body of all unions and associations of state, will observe a two-day nationwide strike on March 28 and 29 over various demands.
According to a statement, the MJCTU&A will hold the strike following the call of the Joint Platform of Central Unions and Independent Sectoral All India Federations and Associations for the sane.
“The Joint Council also decided to hold joint demonstrations on March 25 at 5.30 pm in front of Meghalaya Co-operative Apex Bank Ltd, Shillong and also on March 28 at 12 noon at the same venue in support of the demands and the two-day national strike,” a statement in this regard said.
It may be mentioned that the strike will be observed over demands to scrap Labour Codes and Essential Defence Services Act (EDSA), reverse privatisation proposals of banks and PSUs, cancel National Pension System (NPS) and restore Old Pension Scheme, regularise contract workers, et al.
The MJCTU&A has also appealed to one and all to partake in the strike.
