SHILLONG, March 25: The proposal for increment of salaries of ad hoc teachers in Meghalaya continues to hang fire with Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Friday informing that the government is yet to take a call on the proposal.
Speaking to the reporters here, the chief minister said that the state government is still examining the proposal to enhance the salaries of ad hoc teachers.
“This aspect is still being examined and we have not taken any decision yet,” he said.
He, however, contented that there is usually no delay in releasing the demand for grants for both the ad hoc or deficit teachers.
“But, yes, there could be delay for a month or two. But normally it is always released on time,” the chief minister said.
With regard to the pending salaries of the SSA teachers, Conrad said the state government is clearing the same partially even though they are yet to receive funds from the Centre.
“We are working from the state budget and we are still awaiting release of funds from Delhi. Many of the states are facing similar problem, even in Assam,” he said, arguing that the issue is national. “There is very little we could do to clear everything because most of the amount (for the SSA teachers’ salaries) comes from the Centre,” the chief minister said.
