SHILLONG, March 25: A POCSO court has convicted a former police officer for raping two minor sisters at Ampati police station in South West Garo Hills in 2013.
The quantum of sentence will be announced on Monday.
Special Public Prosecutor Evalarisha Rynjah confirmed the news and said that she has sought life imprisonment for the convict along with fine.
The Court had convicted the accused Nurul Islam on Thursday for committing offences defined and punishable under POCSO Act, 2012 and also the IPC Act.
Islam had raped a 14-year-old girl at Ampati police station on March 13, 2013 and repeated the crime the next day. On March 31, he raped the victim’s 17-year-old sister at gunpoint following which the father of the victims filed an FIR against the cop.
In his FIR, the father had alleged that Islam threatened to kill both the victims if they dared to inform anyone about the crime.
The case was transferred to East Khasi Hills considering the sensitivity of the case.
