SHILLONG, March 27: The North East Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), one of the premier healthcare institutes in the Northeast, is faced with shortage of water and is fulfilling its daily requirement through water tankers.
It is reported that apart from the main hospital complex, some of the hostels and other facilities have been facing shortage of water for quite some time.
“We have water but in terms of our total requirement it is short. Some of our wells which were perennial and the main source of water have dried up. To make up for that shortfall we have started procuring water through tankers to avoid any critical situation,” NEIGRIHMS Director Prof Nalin Mehta told The Shillong Times on Sunday.
“We are in dialogue with the state government for regular supply of water. The government has assured all cooperation and hopefully the problem will be solved soon.”
Making it clear that the short supply of water was not affecting patient care, he said, “We are cautious and are ensuring that we do not reach such a stage. There is no emergency as yet.”
