WILLIAMNAGAR, March 30: Various NGOs of the village of Rongjeng under East Garo Hills (EGH), on Wednesday, called off their stir over the poorly constructed Rongjeng Model College over assurances from the district administration and the state.
The NGOs, including the GSU, FKJGP, AYWO and GSMC were on a two-day protest that began on Tuesday after the technical committee that was meant to inquire the matter did not arrive more than a month after it was constituted.
“We met the representatives of the district administration who promised that the technical committee would be there between April 4 and 14, and do the needed investigation. We have therefore decided to call off our stir for the time being,” informed GSU president, Rattu Sangma.
The stalling of the impasse came after a meeting was called between the administration and them Wednesday morning.
The NGOs, however, insisted that their calling off the stir was to provide the state and administration enough time to get the investigation process underway. They, however, asserted that if there still was action taken, they would intensify their stir in the coming days, after the deadline lapsed.
