Govt scrutinising newborn’s death report, says Wahlang

 SHILLONG: Commissioner and Secretary of Health and Family Welfare, DP Wahlang on Wednesday said that the State Government is scrutinizing the report on the death of a baby in Ganesh Das Hospital recently.

The mother of the newborn had alleged that the baby died due to the negligence of the doctors of the hospital.

“We are scrutinizing the report at the moment and the Government will take a call on instituting an inquiry into the matter once the outcome of the report is known,” he said.

As per the report, the child was suffering from a congenial deformity known as gastroschisis which (is basically a type of hernia where there is a hole in the abdominal wall resulting in the intestine to jut out

of it.

Director of Health Services (Maternal Child Health and Family Welfare) Dr M Marak on Tuesday also mentioned about the difficulty of saving a child born with congenital deformity.

The mother, Monda Beka Marngar, had lodged an FIR with the Additional SP (crime), Vivek Syiem, regarding the matter.

Taking strong note of the incident, the Meghalaya Peoples Human Rights Council (MPHRC) demanded the State Government to constitute a high level expert committee of doctors to enquire into the incident.
