SHILLONG, April 5: A day after a Guwahati-based businessman wrote an email to the Chief Justice of India (CJI) accusing the Meghalaya government of violating the orders of the Supreme Court by delaying appointment of a regular Director-General of Police (DGP), Home Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui dismissed the charge as mere allegation and said that the process of appointing the next DGP was on.
“People can allege but the process is on. It is the duty of the government to appoint the DGP at the earliest,” Rymbui said on Tuesday.
As per reports, Barman had written to the CJI stating that since January 1, 2022, the government has been continuing with temporary officiating in spite of UPSC having finalised a panel of three Assam-Meghalaya cadre IPS officers on February 9, as per the direction of the Supreme Court of India and based on seniority of the cadres.
