Shillong, April 12: Weeks after the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on resolution of boundary dispute in six areas of between Assam and Meghalaya was signed by both the chief ministers, fear of being separated from Meghalaya looms large amongst some residents of inter-state boundary areas.
Seven headmen of inter-state boundary villages with Assam were disappointed on today following their inability to meet the Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to express their grievances.
The leaders from various villages of Ri- Bhoi had come to the secretariat to meet the Chief Minister which did not materialise despite the CM was being in the office.
The disheartened headmen have asserted that they will not part with Meghalaya – come what may – even if it requires knocking at the Supreme Court’s door.
Meanwhile, accompanying the protesting villagers, members of the Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC) have termed the government’s move to send a few villages to Assam as “foul play”.
