SHILLONG, April 14: Now, prisoners serving terms in various jails in the state will be offered a chance to start afresh and mend what had been broken.
The chance comes in the form of a skill training programme to be conducted by the Meghalaya State Skill Development Society, which was inaugurated in Shillong Jail to develop the skills of the prisoners so that they can find employment once they are out.
According to the Inspector General (Prisons), M Kharkrang, the department is trying to grow and enhance the skills of prisoners to enable them to live a life of dignity after serving their respective terms.
Revealing that similar initiative will be taken up in other prisons of the state, the IG (Prisons) expressed hope in the Meghalaya State Skill Development Society to be able to provide prisoners a boost.
He emphasised on not questioning the crimes but to change the lives of prisoners through corrective measures.
