SHILLONG: The State BJP has refuted the news item that the outgoing party president HS Syiemlieh had been removed from the post following the party’s poor performance in the last Assembly election in the State.

In a statement issued here on Monday, BJP State general secretary Dipayan Chakraborty said that Syiemlieh has completed two terms as the State president and his second term came to an end in November 2012.

“Since Assembly election was due the Central leadership had not completed the organisational election in Meghalaya,” Chakraborty said.

BJP president Rajnath

Singh on Sunday had appointed Khlur Sing Lyngdoh as the new party State president in Meghalaya.

According to Chakraboarty, Syiemlieh and other senior State leaders were taken into confidence by the Central leadership before naming Lyngdoh as the new State president.
