SHILLONG: Close on the heels of the rape case in South West Garo Hills involving a five-year-old girl and the recovery of a girl’s body from Ri Bhoi district who had been sexually assaulted and then murdered, the State is gripped with two fresh rape cases reported from Jaintia Hills.

In the first case, a 7-year-old girl was raped by her own relative, one Pailas Poshna Padu-Bah village under Amlarem Sub-division in West Jaintia Hills on Tuesday.

“The incident occurred when the villagers were busy with the Annual Rongkusi Festival,” a source informed.

The accused has been arrested, police informed.

In the second case, a 15-year-old girl allegedly abducted and raped by one Man Dann, a local cabbie hailing from Nartiang village, at Syntu Ksiar in West Jaintia Hills on Monday afternoon.

West Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police Herbert G Lyngdoh informed that the case was reported on Tuesday morning and police are conducting an enquiry into the matter, even as he mentioned that the accused is still at large.

When asked whether the accused is known to the victim, Lyngdoh said, “It is too early to comment on the issue as the matter is still under investigation.”
