Health mela in EKH caters to 13 villages

SHILLONG, April 20: A total of 13 villages on Wednesday benefitted out of a health mela which was organised at Pomlakrai Rangbihbih village by the Office of the BDO Mylliem Block in collaboration with the Block Medical Officer, BMPU Mylliem.
According to a statement, the health mela, organised under the aegis of the National Health Mission, Meghalaya, was attended by Nongkrem MLA Lambor Malngiang and Nongkrem MDC RV Lyngdoh as the chief guest and the guest of honour respectively.
Malngiang, in his address, lauded the Health department and the office of the BDO for organing the health mela and stressed on the importance of holding more awareness programmes on healthcare.
Lamenting the lack of health facilities in the area, the MLA informed that the Agrilla Health Centre will soon be inaugurated at Pomlakrai, which will go a long way in addressing the health concern of the locals.
The MDC, on the other hand, aired concern over the high incidence of cancer cases in Meghalaya, and accentuated the need for people to pay heed to the advice of health workers and eschew listening to hearsays.
During the health mela, locals were also made au courant with awareness on maternal maternity rate, cancer prevention, anemia, importance of deworming, dangers of teenage pregnancy etc.
