MAWKYRWAT, April 21: A three-year-old girl from Mawkohphet village in South West Khasi Hills sustained injuries after she was electrocuted while playing nearby a transformer.
Myntri of Mawkohphet village, NS Iawpaw, informed that when the incident took place, a teacher, who was passing by, rushed to the rescue of the girl and saved her.
Although her live was saved, the three-year-old suffered burn injuries on her left hand and other parts of her body.
She was then rushed to Mawkyrwat CHC.
The Myntri informed that despite repeated pleas by the Dorbar Shnong, the MePDCL continues to display irresponsibility by not fencing the transformer, which is located close to the Presbyterian LP School, Mawkohphet.
“About 3-4 times, we have requested this office to fence the transformer because we have seen the danger that it poses to the villagers, especially the children who are studying at the LP and UP School. Plus, the playground is also near. But unfortunately the office did not pay heed to our request,” the Myntri said, informing that the Dorbar Shnong had once fenced the transformer with woods and bamboo and it was not durable enough to stand the test of time.
Meanwhile, the Myntri, leaders of the Seng Samla Shnong as well as members of the KSU Mawkyrwat Circle on Thursday called on the Sub-Divisional Officer, MePDCL Mawkyrwat, demanded that the office immediately fence the transformer.
