Police foil drug smuggling attempt in SGH

Tura, April 22: In another crackdown on the drug menace, police in South Garo Hills on Friday foiled an attempt by a group to smuggle illegal substances to neighbouring Bangladesh.

According to police, specific information was received at around 6 PM that some unknown persons were going to deliver banned contraband substances at Malikhona, Baghmara, meant to be sold to Bangladesh.

Following the receipt of the information, an operation was launched during which, a vehicle was stopped and 4 (four) persons were detained. A body search of the four persons resulted in the recovery of 198 numbers of Yava tablests weighing 20 gms.

The drugs were immediately seized and further investigation is on.
