SHILLONG: The Association of Qualified Grade-IV-2011, East Khasi Hills District on Friday have decided to hold a hunger strike on April 9 to pressurize the State government to uphold the ‘Merit List’ which was omitted on October last year.

According to the Assistant General of the association T Mylliempdah, the hunger strike will be held at Student’s field in Jaiaw from 10am onwards.

It may be reminded that the association had organised various agitation programmes during the last months of 2012 and the early months of this year to demand from the State government to maintain the merit list and to employ all the 209 youths of which the government has not been able to provide employment till date.

From the 331 youth who completed this examination, the government employed only 122 and later informed that the rest could not be employed as the appointment time has ended and stated that the ‘Merit List’ has been done away with following orders directed from the Supreme Court of India.
