NONGSTOIN: The Rambrai Jyrngam Block Congress Committee (RJBCC) met at Rambrai on Saturday to discuss the party’s future course of action ahead of the MDC elections due early next year.
Attended by 200 members, the meeting decided to nominate JTS Thongni as the party’s candidate for the MDC election.
Speaking to The Shillong Times after the meeting RJBCC office secretary BR Thabah said, “We will not entertain any other applications for the MDC elections. In the last Assembly election, the MPCC had denied ticket to our projected candidate thus creating confusion among the party workers.”
He further said that the RJBCC would demand for C&RD Block status for Rambrai as people from far flung areas like Athiabari, Aradonga, Kyrshai and Malangkona faced a lot of hardship travelling to Nongstoin.
Thongni was the first Congress MDC from the HSPDP dominated Rambrai area. However, he suffered defeat at the hands of the incumbent MLA K P Pangniang who is also the current MDC of the area.
Reliable sources say that business tycoon Kimfa Marbaniang, who lost in the last Assembly election, would also contest in the MDC polls. Sources also say that incumbent MLA and MDC would also contest to retain his seat.
