SHILLONG: Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Education, Prof RC Laloo, on Monday denied any knowledge about the stampede incident at St. Margaret’s HS School on Monday afternoon.

“Nobody has informed me about the incident,” he said while speaking to The Shillong Times on Monday evening.

He, however, said that he would inquire about the matter from his officer.

Meanwhile, Urban Affairs Minister and local MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh expressed serious concern about the incident.

“I rushed to Nazareth Hospital after being informed of the incident. I have been informed by the doctors in the hospital that all the students are out of danger except for one who is still under observation,” Ampareen said.

“Preliminary reports of both the police and the district administration have ruled out that the incident occurred due to structural problems in the school building,” the Urban Affairs Minister said, while adding that a team from the disaster management team would be visiting the school to assess the building.

Ampareen also said that she would be visiting the school in the next few days.
