SHILLONG: As many as 47 VIPs and VVIPs are allowed to use tinted glass in their vehicles, Home Minister Roshan Warjri informed the Assembly on Tuesday.

While replying to a question raised by Nongkrem legislator Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit (HSPDP) on the ban on tinted glasses on vehicles, Warjri said that only those VIPs and VVIPs who have been provided with Z and Z+ category security have been allowed to use tinted glasses on their vehicles.

She said that the issue for granting the use of tinted glasses is being examined by a Committee comprising of the Director General of Police (DGP) and Secretary of the Home department.

“The Committee so far granted permission to a total number of 47 VIPs and VVIPs to use tinted glasses in their vehicles,” the Home Minister said.

She, however, said that the implementation of the Supreme Court order to remove tinted glasses from vehicles is a continuing activity and necessary instructions have been issued to all police units for taking action to implement this order.

“These instructions are reiterated from time to time to ensure the maximum possible implementation of the order,” Warjri said.
