SHILLONG, May 9: National People’s Party (NPP) vice president, Prestone Tynsong on Monday formally inducted noted psychiatrist, Jasmine Mary Lyngdoh into the party and announced her candidature from Nongthymmai constituency.
Lyngdoh, who is the sister of suspended Congress MLA from East Shillong, Ampareen Lyngdoh was formally inducted into the party in the presence of NPP state president WR Kharlukhi, NPP working president Sniawbhalang Dhar and party MLAs and MDCs.
Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma could not attend the meeting as he was on his way from Delhi.
Tynsong said the party leadership decided to allot the ticket to Lyngdoh since she had the potential to serve the people of Nongthymmai constituency.
He also said that the NPP’s policy was different from other political parties as in they announce their candidates early to prevent any confusion or division within the party.
“The people know who the party is fielding from the constituency. This will remove any tussle for the party ticket as is the case with other political parties,” the NPP leader said.
Lyngdoh said she was relieved that the suspense over her candidature was over.
According to her, the NPP is a party with a vision to make Meghalaya progressive under the leadership of a young and dynamic CM. “It is also a party which keeps its national status intact and also brings about development in the state,” she said.
The NPP state president formally inducted the office-bearers of the newly-constituted Nongthymmai Block as well as the women’s and youth wings.
