SHILLONG: The State government is proposing to implement the four-tier Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC) now rechristened as the Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan (NBA) in all the districts of the State to ensure the implementation of an effective waste management in the rural areas.

Replying to a question raised by Nongkrem legislator Ardent Basaiawmoit on Thursday, Deputy Chief Minister in charge of PHE department, Prof RC Laloo, said that the proposal of the project, sanctioned under the State scheme, has been sent to the Union Government for approval.

Concurring with Basaiawmoit’s statement that waste management is a concern both in urban and rural areas, the Deputy CM said that the project will be applied in all the rural areas of the State with large-scale mobilization and monitoring from the various stakeholders.

The Nongkrem MLA suggested that the department should adopt a micro approach to deal with waste management by digging pits to dump degradable wastes.
