SHILLONG, May 13: It is a rare occasion in electoral politics when blood relations lock horns for one seat; and now, with Rocky Hek’s revelation on Friday, it is writ large that the stage has been set for a similar brawl for Pynthorumkhrah constituency during the 2023 Assembly elections.
Rocky Hek, who resigned from the Shillong city district wing of BJP as well as its membership on Friday, announced that he will contest against his maternal uncle, AL Hek, on an NPP ticket.
It is pertinent to note that the BJP MLA has been representing Pynthorumkhrah constituency for the last 25 years.
Rocky, while alleging that there has been lack of development in the constituency, said, “It is time for him (AL Hek) and it is more than enough. We have to change the MLA and this is 2022.”
Making it clear that he holds nothing personal against his uncle, Rocky said that he wants to “score a goal”.
Informing that he has met senior NPP leaders in this regard, Rocky said that Prestone Tynsong has assured him a ticket from Pynthorumkhrah constituency.
Rocky informed that once he prepares all the wings in the constituency by June, he will request the NPP to announce his candidature from Pynthorumkhrah constituency.
Earlier, Rocky also cast aspersion on the state BJP leaders, maintaining that there are no reliable leaders in the saffron party.
He had also accused the state BJP of not giving due recognition to his contributions.
Meanwhile, AL Hek has refused to comment anything on the matter.
