SHILLONG: The emerging trend of organising Edufests in and around the city having numerous educational institutions from various parts of the country as participants has raked up a concern as to whether such educational institutions are really satisfactory as claimed by them or just another way to dupe the students.

In line with this, the education cell of the KSU recently submitted a memorandum to the Home Minister, Roshan Warjri apprising her of this dangerous trend which could hamper the aspiration of the students from our State.

While lauding the efforts of these Edufests for providing a channel to students for selection of courses and institutions in a lesser time frame and at a cheaper cost, the KSU has however, stated that in recent years numerous unscrupulous Edufests are taking advantage of the simplicity of our students.

It may be mentioned that during the past few years, many Edufests are being organized in our state for the benefit or our students aspiring to study abroad within the country and overseas.

“Such Edufests are observed to dupe our students with fancy offers from certain institutions which do not provide quality education but their main objective is to mint money from our students”, chairman of the KSU education cell, Donald V Thabah said in a statement issued here on Sunday.

He further stated that certain institutions charge exorbitant fees which are not at par with the quality of education that they provide. “Apart from that, some institutions are not recognized and some don’t even exist at all”, Thabah alleged.

The KSU has called upon the Home Minister to take up this matter which is of serious and grave concern as it hampers the aspiration of the students from our state while asking the government to take necessary steps to keep a check on such fake Edufests.
