More youths participating in politics, says NPP MLA

NONGSTOIN, May 23: Participation of youths in politics after 2018 general elections comparatively went up and youths now are stepping forward to take up political roles confidently. Stating this, the National People’s Party (NPP) MLA from Mawshynrut, Gigur Myrthong, on Monday lauded the youths while expressing happiness in the new trend.
Myrthong was speaking at a function wherein the National People Youth Front (NPYF) constituted the District Executive Committee (DEC), West Khasi Hills.
The office bearers of the DEC are World Champion Paliar (president), Pynshaibor Lyngdoh (working president), Shailambok Marbaniang (vice president), Kyntonbor Mawsor, Bansaiohbor Mawtyllup and Bendrowel Hahshah (all general secretaries) besides 21 executive members. The office-bearers were administered oath by NPYF state president, Kitborlang Nongrem, at Bishop Hall Nongstoin.
The NPP MLA encouraged the youths to join politics calling them “the only hope” of bringing a change in the district and the state, while reminding them to remain faithful stand to one’s principles.
Myrthong went on to state that the NPP’s strength lies in the power of the youths, adding that most of them join the party because of its dynamic leaders.
The NPYF state president, on the other hand, echoed the NPP MLA’s take on encouraging more youth to participate in politics. Backing his stand, he explained that by joining politics, they will have a say in bringing a change in their respective areas.  Addressing the gathering, Nongstoin MLA Macmillan Byrsat said that as many as 33 MLAs from different political parties will be joining the NPP before the Assembly elections in 2023.
“NPP will surely come in a solid majority and will be ruling alone in the upcoming Assembly elections,” Byrsat said.
He said that in Mawshynrut and Nongstoin constituencies, 80% of the party’s manifesto introduced in the last general election has been completed.
