SHILLONG: Lamenting on the fact over the loss of identity among the indigenous people of the State, Chief Advisor to the State Government, DD Lapang, observed that as people climb higher in life, they tend to forget their roots which is quite heartbreaking.
Delivering his address during the release of a Khasi album Tienphira, a medley of love songs and didactic poetry of the Audiophile Production at Shillong Club here on Saturday, Lapang said in this IT age, people has advanced in many sphere including music, but what is sad to see is that most of them are ashamed of their own identity.
Commenting that the State is bestowed with abundant potentials in the field of music, Lapang said the people of the State are no less talented when compared with others.
“This talent needs to be tapped among the youth who can do wonders to the society as well as the State and the international platform,” Lapang said.
Meanwhile, Legislative Assembly member Paul Lyngdoh pointed out that the quality of the Khasi music is not proportionate to the quantity citing the fact that with time the quantity of Khasi music has risen up to a larger extent but with it the standard has gone down tremendously.
While doling out words of encouragement to the artists, lyricists and the production team of the album Lyngdoh urged them to continue improving their skills in this particular field.
Tienphira has ten beautiful songs sung by eight renowned artists of the State.
