TURA: The indefinite hunger strike by the All Garo Hills SET Passed Contractual teachers which began on April 16, ended on Friday after it took a serious turn with as many as ten agitators being rushed to the Tura Civil Hospital for medical care.

The contractual teachers have been staging their hunger strike in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Tura.

Although, the Government has remained oblivious to the plight of the hunger strikers, various NGOs of the region have expressed their support for the cause of the contractual teachers.

The NGOs informed that they will be taking recourse to stronger steps in future to draw the attention of the Government towards the genuine demands of the teachers.

Meanwhile, the SET passed contractual teachers have expressed their gratitude to all the NGOs who had supported them in their agitation, and also the medical department for their prompt services in treating the teachers who had to be taken to the hospital.

The Teachers also thanked the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner for providing immediate care and for feeding the agitators after the conclusion of the hunger strike.
