SHILLONG, June 3: The Congress will come out with a “charge sheet” against the National People’s Party-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government ahead of next year’s election.
Disclosing this, the party’s state president, Vincent H Pala on Friday told reporters the charge-sheet will be made public after the announcement of poll schedule.
“We are preparing it. We have already set up committees on different issues,” he said.
He also said the Congress is preparing itself for the polls and Friday’s meeting was part of that preparation.
To a query, he said the highlights of the charge sheet will be the government’s alleged failure on the law and order front, corruption etc. He said the Church is against gambling but the government had come up with the Meghalaya State Gaming Act.
On corruption, Pala alleged the numerous toll gates from Shillong to Nongstoin are run by the state government and the Autonomous District Council, affecting consumers, farmers and public.
“This is corruption but everybody, except the Congress, is silent,” Pala said, adding, “Everybody is getting a share out of it.”
Continuing his attack, he said, “In terms of economy, the government has not been able to pay the teachers, district council staff and health workers.”
He alleged the government is unable to collect revenue due to corruption. He also alleged that the state exchequer has gone to “personal pockets”. He added that these aspects, being examined by the Congress’ search team, will be included in the charge-sheet.
Earlier, All India Congress Committee secretary in-charge of Meghalaya, Manish Chatrath had said, “Not one issue, there are ten issues that one can come up with. If you want change, you should think only of the Congress.”
Meanwhile, talking about the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), Pala said, “The voters of the state know which party is better for the future. The rate of unemployment is very high and people know which party is good.”
Stating that the Congress will respect any political party in the poll fray, he said the results will tell if the Congress or the AITC will be affected.
