SHILLONG: The State Central Library was the venue to a simple cultural event to commemorate the golden jubilee celebration of Headquarter 101 Area but was turned into an armed fortress on Monday.

Residents who passed by the venue were shocked to see large number of armed Security gunmen guarding the entire surroundings of the building protecting the Army’s higher ups.

Residents says that the unnecessary posing of several armed gunmen was a futile showoff as it definitely made many residents think if there is breakdown of law and order machinery in the capital city especially in view of the fact that the panic still lingers in the city after the recent vandalism earlier this month.

The Army traffic sleuth who was posted at the IGP junction to manage traffic for the Army higher-ups was not at all bothered to listen to the suggestions of the Shillong Traffic police personnel as he was only interested to make way for his bosses.

There was also a bee-line of vehicles with red beacon in the entire campus of State Central Library and it seemed as the Very Very Important Persons (VVIPs) have made their way into the library.
