SHILLONG, June 9: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday downplayed the alleged rift between top health officials in the wake of the controversy surrounding the Indian Institute of Public Health (IIPH), reasoning that it is natural in any department or organisation to have divergent views even as he maintained that it could be bad if the situation escalates to a point where it affects the work of the department and its outcome.
“I don’t say health (department) but in general in any organisation or any kind of situation it is not healthy and when we work as a team we should work as a team,” he said.
According to some media reports, things are not going well between the Principal Secretary, Health, Sampath Kumar, and Director of Health Services (MI), Aman War, after accusations of highhandedness in dealing with the IIPH faculties and students while asking them to vacate the premises without any prior notice surfaced against the DHS.
The CM, however, said, “But keeping in mind the different dynamics and complication of the situation, two individuals may have different views on certain points. They may both be intending to do the right thing but one may feel it should be done from the right side and the other from the left side.”
“I will look into the matter and figure out how to move forward but as I said it is something that can happen in any organisation,” he added.
