Illegal gun factory busted, 1 held

 SHILLONG: The Special Operation Team (SOT) along with the Mawsynram police raided an illegal gun factory at Dewsaw near Tynger, Mawsynram on Thursday and arrested one Kashmilin Konjir (62), the gun manufacturer.

The police also seized two SBBL barrels and 1 SBBL barrel with butt used for gun making.

In 2009, the Jaintia Hills police had busted an arms factory making small arms and arrested a gun manufacturer at Thadsning village near Thangrain, around 50 km from Jowai.

The police had recovered a number of small arms including two single barrel guns, two muzzle loading guns, measurement scale, hand blower, hammers and other iron materials which are used to make country made weapons.

The East Khasi Hills police had in the past busted several makeshift arms factories in the borders in Mawsynram and Cherrapunjee.
