SHILLONG, June 15: United Democratic Party (UDP) working president Titosstarwell Chyne has revealed that feelers have been put out to the party, which indicate that sitting MLAs from other parties are keen on contesting the 2023 assembly polls on UDP ticket, even as he asserted that it is too early to divulge their names.
“A section of the media has even speculated Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong (is interested to join UDP). Such speculations will be there. But it is too early now to divulge the names of the sitting MLAs who have approached the party since few months is left for the elections,” Chyne said here on Wednesday.
He, however, revealed that there are several sitting MLAs including ones from the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) and also among suspended Congress MLAs, who are keen on joining the UDP.
Chyne has also stated that the suspended Congress MLAs, who have pledged their support to the MDA government recently, will likely join either the UDP or National People’s Party (NPP).  The UDP working president has confirmed that all the sitting MLAs and MDCs of the party will be contesting in the assembly polls next year, adding that the party already has candidates ready for 29 assembly seats.
Stating that the party’s state election committee will soon meet to finalise its candidates, Chyne said that the first list of candidates is expected to be released in the first week of July.
