TURA, June 19: Tura MDC Bernard N Marak, on Sunday, called for joint efforts to tackle the flood and landslide problems in the state even as he announced his willingness to help in the relief works if volunteers are required.
“Departments are doing their duties however preparedness to tackle the present situation inflicted by incessant rain is yet to be enhanced at the village level. People are still confused who to approach in extreme situations. Public volunteers should be mobilised to help the victims and proper help line should be set up in all blocks,” Marak suggested in a statement.
He urged the government to treat the situation as an emergency and that emergency response teams should be prompt in all districts and blocks with the help of volunteers.
Marak also urged concerned departments like Medical, Power and others to be ready to reach the affected areas while also calling on local groups and volunteers to come forward to help the affected families. He also sought that financial assistance and relief be given to those affected without delay.
