SHILLONG, June 19: The United Democratic Party (UDP) members in Garo Hills region are said to be unhappy over a statement of the party’s chief adviser Bindo Lanong, who said that the UDP will form a coalition government with the National People’s Party (NPP) after the 2023 assembly polls.
This was informed by the general secretary of UDP youth wing in Garo Hills, Arman G Marak, on Sunday.
“The prediction of Lanong has demoralised the party workers in Garo Hills. We respect the senior party leader but we don’t subscribe to his prediction,” Marak said.
He said that the party has high hopes of projecting the young and energetic leaders with good image as party candidates before the electorates as the alternative in place of the two tall political figures from the region.
“Once we put the ball in the peoples’ court, it shall be the roles and responsibilities of the general electorate to decide the future of our state; whom they are going to cast their votes,” the UDP youth leader said.
He expressed confidence that the party has high hopes to be able to form the next government under the leadership of party president Metbah Lyngdoh.
Marak also said that they expect to win at least eight seats in the region.
