SHILLONG: Commuters were once again at the receiving end of the traffic snarl that hit the city on Saturday. One of the most common reasons for the traffic jams in the city is the entry of trucks, scores of which were seen plying in the city on Saturday.

East Khasi Hills SP, M Kharkrang said that the trucks were allowed to enter during the day as there was a jam in the national highway in Mawiong.

To make things worse, many vehicles were seen overtaking further clogging the roads.

Meanwhile, the situation was worse in the Guwahati-Shillong road which witnessed a major traffic snarl after a 24 wheeler trailer truck broke down in the middle of the road.

RI Bhoi SP CVS Reddy informed that the truck was trying to make a u-turn at Sumer. However, due to the wet conditions, its wheels got stuck. “Our men are working to remove it and we have also sought the help from Shillong Traffic police,” he said.
