Ri-Bhoi farmers get awareness on use of fertilisers, nanofertilisers

SHILLONG, June 21: Farmers from Ri-Bhoi were on Tuesday imparted various methodologies to improve soil health, reduce cost and increase productivity.
According to a statement, a national awareness campaign on ‘Efficient and balanced use of fertilisers, including nanofertilisers’ was organised by ICAR, KVK-Ri-Bhoi, as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, which was attended by around 30 farmers from four villages of Ri-Bhoi.
Director of ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Dr. VK Mishra, who was the chief guest during the programme, spoke at length about the essential nutrients for crop growth as well as about deficiency that can cause the reduction of yield.
He also explained the importance of balanced use of fertilisers, including nanofertiliser, to better soil health, reduce cost and increase productivity.
Principal Scientist & Head, KVK, Ri-Bhoi, Dr. Mokidul Islam, on the other hand, elaborated on different soil-testing methods for efficient use for soil fertility and crop productivity enhancement.
Scientist, Soil Science, ICAR, Dr Mahesweta Chakraborty, in her address, encouraged the farmers to make use of nanofertilisers in their farms.
