‘Youths in rural parts of state falling prey to drugs’

SHILLONG, June 22: The unabated problem of drug abuse has now started to bedevil rural Meghalaya with many youths falling prey to it.
Informing this, Director General of Police (DGP) Lajja Ram Bishnoi, in his address as the chief guest during a friendly football match here on Wednesday, said that despite the rising trend in cases of drug abuse, police have adopted measures to curtail the same and are initiating crackdowns from time to time.
Informing that the department has been conducting awareness programmes among the public on ill effects of drugs abuse, the DGP said that many drugs traffickers and peddlers have been arrested by the police to date.
Informing that programmes are also being conducted for state police personnel on drug menace, the DGP has sought support of the stakeholders, including the media, to tackle the menace of drugs abuse.
