SHILLONG, June 23: More than a week since a major landslide occurred along the PMGSY road from Umpung village to Mawpud village in South West Khasi Hills and the debris is yet to be cleared. On account of such a situation, all forms of communication have reportedly been cut off in the area.
Talking to reporters, Myntri of Mawpud village MacDonald Thongni said there is no alternative road to and from the village, which is why the villagers have been unable to travel to and fro the village.
Thongni has urged the PWD and the local MLA to look into the matter.
He also revealed that major landslides have occurred along the PMGSY road near Lad Dom Mawlein, about 5-6 kilometres from Mawpud village, and people are travelling to Balat and Ranikor on foot, particularly to purchase essential commodities and medicines in the absence of an alternative road.
Talking about damage during the recent incessant downpour in the state, Thongni said crops besides water pipes meant for supply to the village were destroyed as rains lashed the village.
