SHILLONG, June 27: Following an assurance from Chief Minister Conrad Sangma that he would take up their cause with health Minister James PK Sangma, the state executive committee (SEC) of Meghalaya Medical Services Association (MMSA) has decided to call off its proposed agitation that was to begin on Tuesday.
The announcement came after the chief minister told reporters he will speak with the Health minister.
“I am sure some steps have been taken by the department on the matter. The issue needs to be resolved at the earliest,” the CM said.
The MMSA had earlier decided to go ahead with the protest since the state government had not taken any action against the Indian Institute of Public Health (IIPH), Shillong authority in connection with the May 27 incident at the old NIFT building at Pasteur Hills, Lawmali.
The association had written to the Health minister on June 1 demanding appropriate action against the Registrar and the Director of the IIPH, Shillong for allegedly portraying the Director of Health Services (MI), Aman War in a bad light.
