Natl Statistics Day celebrated in Ampati, Nongstoin

TURA/NONGSTOIN, June 29: Marking the birth anniversary of Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis in view of his notable contribution in the field of economic planning and the statistical development, National Statistics Day was on Wednesday, celebrated at the Multi Facility Centre, Ampati, in South West Garo Hills, with the theme ‘Data for Sustainable Development’.
The programme was organised by the District Statistical Office, Ampati, under the aegis of Ministry of Statistics and Program implementation in a bid to spread awareness about the use of statistics in everyday life and policy making.
It was attended by students, teachers and officers of various line departments.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of South West Garo Hills AVD Shira, who attended the programme as the chief guest, spoke particularly to students and said that during HSSLC and SSLC results, statistics helped to determine the overall performance of the students from across the district.
District Statistical Officer of Ampati, SG Momin while welcoming the gathering, explained the reasons as to why National Statistics Day is observed.
In Nongstoin, the office of the District Statistical Officer, West Khasi Hills, organised a programme to celebrate the occasion at Anderson Higher Secondary School, Nongstoin.
