SHILLONG, July 6: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) on Wednesday paid tributes to the former MDC and Chief Executive Member (CEM) Rowell Lyngdoh, who passed away on March 13 this year.
While moving the condolence resolution during the obituary reference on the first day of the Council’s summer session, KHADC CEM Titosstarwell Chyne said that the Council expresses its sorrow at the demise of Lyngdoh.
Chyne also expressed condolences to Lyngdoh’s wife Millicient Saiborne, his children and other members of the bereaved family.
Recalling Lyngdoh’s association with the KHADC, Chyne also informed that the former was a six-time MLA representing Mawkyrwat constituency and a former deputy chief minister.
“As a member of the Council and the State Assembly, he had contributed towards the welfare and interest of this council, the district and the state as a whole. The vacuum caused by his death is greatly felt by us. May his soul rest in peace and may God grant strength and fortitude to the members of the bereaved family,” the KHADC CEM said.
Others who participated in the obituary reference include veteran MDC Bindo Mathew Lanong and Mawkyrwat Congress MDC Carnes Sohlang.
Portfolio rejig normal exercise: CEM
Meanwhile, Chyne, later during the day, also termed the portfolio reshuffle among the executive members as a routine exercise.
Talking to reporters, Chyne said that the reshuffle is an internal arrangement among the MDCs of the United Democratic Party (UDP).
According to the CEM, he decided to have two executive members to look after Elaka Administration since the present EM of Elaka Jambor War is overburdened.
Chyne said War will now be in-charge of Elaka Administration of East Khasi Hills and Ri-Bhoi while the Elaka Administration of Eastern West Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills and South West Khasi Hills will now be looked after by Paul Lyngdoh.
The KHADC CEM said that as an adjustment, he has decided to give the Taxation department, which was earlier held by Paul Lyngdoh, to War since he has only Elaka Administration of the two districts.
He also said that the speculations of him taking this decision to ensure safety to his chair are not true.
It may be mentioned that Lyngdoh will also hold charge of Town Committees, Building Bye Laws and Sports & Youth Affairs besides Elaka Administration.
