SHILLONG, July 9: Joining the chorus of dissenters, Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Vincent H Pala, on Saturday, cast aspersions on Cabinet minister Sanbor Shullai for allegedly misbehaving during the interactive session between National Democratic Alliance’s Presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu and state legislators recently.
Pala said his conduct has degraded the image of the state and its legislators.
“It shows the level of quality of legislators we have. Sanbor is minister from BJP ruling party, I do not blame Metbah it is not his fault,” said Pala while referring to the incident.
The State Congress president pointed out how this episode created a rift between the BJP and United Democratic Party (UDP) while terming the situation as unfortunate.
Although Pala was not invited for the programme, he said he would not have been able to in any case because of a busy schedule.
With regard to the fate of the Congress in the assembly polls, he said, “Congress is not weak. We have a fresh plate, this is the first time we have the best candidate of our choice.”
“Of course leaders might have gone but votes are with the people. The leaders might have taken a few supporters but many have also come to us,” he added.
Talking about Garo Hills region where the battle is said to be a tough one for all political parties, Pala said, “We will do well in Garo Hills, much better than what is expected.”
Talking about the advantage his party his, Pala said that the Congress will give equal opportunities to all, which is why the people will support the party.
With regard to the Khasi-Jaintia region, the Congress chief said the party may have a good chance.
