SHILLONG, July 11: As the internal feud between BJP MLAs Sanbor Shullai and AL Hek is out in public domain, Union Minister Rameswar Teli on Monday said he will try his best to resolve all issues that exist in the party.
Downplaying the tussle between the two MLAs, he said such instances are common in every political party.
Earlier, Shullai had lambasted Hek for making the incident in Orchid Lake resort public while the BJP’s South Shillong unit accused Hek of trying to gain political mileage out of the incident and demanded his suspension from the party.
Teli did not comment much on the matter but asked BJP workers and leaders to work hard to strengthen the organisation so that the party could win the Assembly elections next year and the Shillong parliamentary seat in 2024.
Hek too downplayed Shullai’s attack on him. He claimed there are no differences between them.
“We were sitting on the same dais in today’s meeting and there is no leaving and fighting in BJP but only lobbying,” Hek said, adding the question of burying the hatchet does not arise.
He also said that the party is now focusing on the upcoming polls.
The Union minister issued specific directions to complete constituting all the Mondals (units) within Shillong parliamentary seat within a month for which a three-member committee has also been formed, Hek said.
The core committee has been formed and Hek has been assigned the task of running party activities in East Khasi Hills and Ri-Bhoi. He claimed the party can win upto 10 seats in the two districts provided it strategises well.
MLAs must maintain decorum: Tynsong
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prestone Tynsong said the MLAs of the state have to maintain decorum. He was reacting to a query on the controversy that arose after Shullai had interrupted UDP president and Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh when he was addressing a gathering during NDA Presidential nominee Droupadi Murmu’s visit to the state last week.
Tynsong said the incident happened outside the Assembly and hence, he has nothing to say about it. He, however, said the MLAs need to maintain decorum.
“My colleagues should not interrupt when I speak and when they speak, I am also not supposed to interrupt, whether it is inside the House or outside the House,” Tynsong said.
NCP state president Saleng Sangma said every individual has the right to highlight the situation as Murmu is going to be the head of the country.
“It is the right of the Speaker to apprise the presidential candidate of the situation of Christians, people of the state and the state itself,” Sangma said, adding it was not an appropriate occasion for the MLA to utter such words.
