SHILLONG: With an aim to create awareness on the social evils in the society like drugs and substance abuse, rise of crimes against women and children, the students from different schools of the city on Sunday joined hands and took out a rally under the banner of Leadership Training Service (LTS) to “Save the World through Service.”

The much awaited annual programme began at St. Margaret’s School Auditorium with an opening prayer where the members were reminded of the words of Mother Teresa who said, “Hungry not only for bread, but hungry for love. Naked not only for clothing, but naked for human dignity and respect. Homeless not only for want of a room of bricks, but homeless because of rejection.”

As part of the annual meeting, a rally through the secretariat and the Raj Bhawan was organized to create awareness on the evils that have cropped in the society and the students took a pledge to work towards banning the sales of cigarette and gutkha in the state.

Earlier during the inaugural function, the president of the Rotary Club Orchid City, Shillong Dr. C Varghese who attended the gathering as the chief guest called upon the students to be leaders in society.

Sr. Xavier Chirayil RNDM who serves as the LTS coordinator, Shillong Region for the last 43 years in her speech implored the students to make use of the opportunity to become leaders.
