Assam groups demand justice for assaulted GH woman
TURA, July 15: Several Garo organisations from Assam have demanded justice for Mousumi Momin who was physically assaulted by two police personnel at Dudhnoi Police station under Goalpara district in Assam recently.Momin, wife of Sengkal Marak of Lower Nogorpara village in Mendipathar in North Garo Hills, was assaulted by police in connection with a case involving her husband, who left unannounced after being called to the police station. On Friday, Garo organisations including the All Assam Gaonburah Association, A’chik Border Association, Garo National Council and the Garo National Union demanded justice for the assault victim in the form of action against those involved. Representations of their demand for justice towards the victim were submitted separately to the Director General of Police in Guwahati and the Welfare of Plain Tribe & Backward Classes Minister.
City author’s book released
SHILLONG, July 15: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has released Shillong-based author Salil Gewali’s book Know Your India during a programme in Gangtok. The programme, which was organised as part of Bhanu Jayanti celebrations, was attended by political leaders, scholars, writers, filmmakers, social activists from various parts of India. The chief minister, during the programme, also lauded the literary contributions of Gewali to the country. It is pertinent to note that Know Your India is a collection of articles which are about the significant literary wisdom of India and its relevance in modern times. The forewords to the book have been written by an eminent Lahore-born scholar from London, Umar Khalid, and another learned scholar, Linda Epton, from Perth, Australia. It may be mentioned that Gewali is best known for his book Great Minds on India, which has so far been translated into thirteen languages.
Web portal for public services
SHILLONG, July 15: The Integrated Web Portal of the Meghalaya State Public Services Delivery Commission was on Friday launched by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma during a programme here. The chief minister, in his address, informed that portal is a step towards achieving citizen-centric governance and improving the overall delivery mechanism. Informing that 188 services will be made available at the earliest on the portal, Conrad urged the departments at all levels to adhere to the timelines so that there is no delay.
IIM, Greece institute ink MoU
SHILLONG, July 15: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong and the ALBA Graduate Business School, Athens, on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for collaborative work on teacher-student exchange programmes, joint research initiatives, and other academic and scientific endeavours. According to a statement, the MoU was signed by Prof DP Goyal of IIM Shillong and Prof Kostas Axarloglou of ALBA Graduate Business School, Athens. Meanwhile, shedding light on the collaboration, Dr Goyal said, “Through this partnership, IIM Shillong hopes to use the sustainable expertise of institution like ALBA Business School to represent a reciprocal relationship between the two institutions and support academic, training and R&D activities in specific domains that will speed both countries’ progress toward achieving their sustainable development goals.”
