SHILLONG, July 16: On a firm footing in Garo Hills region, the Meghalaya Pradesh Trinamool Congress (MPTC) is now trying to strengthen its base in Khasi and Jaintia Hills through stepped up activities.
The party on Saturday enrolled members and inaugurated its office at Laskein, West Jaintia Hills district.
It also held a Block Committee meeting at Mowkaiaw, Jaintia Hills.
The meeting was attended by party’s top leaders – Leader of Opposition Dr Mukul Sangma, MLA George B Lyngdoh, James Lyngdoh besides the MDCs from Garo hills.
Mukul used the occasion to attack the state government on its alleged misgovernance. “You are witnessing the protests by many employees of different departments trying to draw the attention of the government to various grievances. We also have many other employees who are silently enduring the discrimination,” he said.
He blamed the “proxy BJP government” for all these.
“There are posts which have fallen vacant due to retirement or untimely passing away of the employees. These are not vacancies created by the government. The government does not intend to create jobs for the youth,” Mukul further said.
He said many youth, aspiring to be teachers, appeared in MTET and the results have been also declared but the vacancies have not been filled up despite a promise by the government on the same after the process of interview is completed.
“Not filling up the vacancies amounts to depriving the jobseekers. These are all because of the faulty policy of the government,” he claimed.
On the interstate boundary issue with Assam, the MPTC leader alleged the hard-earned ancestral land of Meghalaya is being compromised. He described the MoU signed between the two states as “undemocratic, insensitive and irresponsible”.
Meanwhile, MPTC president, Charles Pyngrope urged the people of Mowkaiaw to join the #BeTheChange campaign and become agents of change for Mowkaiaw.
