SHILLONG, July 16: In a bid to mount pressure on the government to listen to their demands, the Meghalaya EMRI Workers’ Union has decided to cease work indefinitely from Monday.
The GVK Emergency Management and Research Institute (GVK-EMRI) employees had given a deadline of 72 hours to the state government to terminate the contract with the company which is operating the 108 emergency services in Meghalaya. They had also issued a threat to cease work if their demand was not fulfilled.
President of the union Microlina Syiemlieh said that the Health Minister as well as the department has shown no interest in their demands.
Stating that the union is in talks with the joint managing director of the National Health Mission (NHM), Syiemlieh, however, said that NHM is not the authority which can fulfill their demand.
On the other hand, union’s spokesperson Roypar Kharraswai alleged that the management has failed in providing quality health services, hence the demand for termination of the contract with the company.
Earlier, even Syiemlieh had said that the GVK management has failed to provide quality service to people of the state. She asked the state government to run the services on its own.
“Even the employees are suffering due to the poor management,” she had said.
