SHILLONG, July 20: In a peculiar incident which reportedly occurred in Assam, a central government employee serving in Shillong has filed a complaint with the Superintendent of Police of Karbi Anglong after police personnel forcibly demanded money from him at Manja police check gate for carrying 2 kg of beef.
According to the complainant, Khriesaneisa Rutsa, the incident happened on July 17 when he and his nephew were en route to Shillong in his car.
His vehicle was intercepted by two police personnel at Manja police check gate in Karbi Anglong, Assam.
During checking, the two police personnel found 2 kg of beef which he was carrying for his consumption.
After the cops found they were carrying two kg of beef, the police asked him to pay a fine of Rs 10,000 as beef is banned in Assam.
It was alleged that the cops tried to negotiate the fine amount.
However, when he explained his position, the cops threatened to take him to a temple or the police station.
The complainant alleged that the cops later demanded Rs 2,000 from and somehow managed to take away the amount. The SP of Karbi Anglong has been asked to initiate strict action against the two police personnel for allegedly extorting money from travellers and for the bid to create communal tension with the threat of taking them to a temple.
