NEW DELHI, July 20: The ecotourism sector in Meghalaya is likely to get a major boost with the international New Development Bank (NDB) approving USD 79 million for the Meghalaya Ecotourism Infrastructure Development Project.
The investment will lead to the establishment of five ecotourism circuits, fostering much needed infrastructure in the hill state. The project includes the construction 114 km of roads and bridges. The central concept of these projects is to share common travel facilities, creation of environmentally friendly practices, protection of the natural and cultural heritage of a destination and support to the local communities.
NDB was established with the purpose of mobilising resources for infrastructure and sustainable development projects in BRICS and other emerging market economies and developing countries, complementing the efforts of multilateral and regional financial institutions for global growth and development. BRICS consists of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
