SHILLONG: Union Minister for Rural Development, Jairam Ramesh, has cleared a new set of PMGSY works in Meghalaya including 75 roads covering a length of 267 km and three bridges at the cost of Rs 231 crore.
The Union Minister, however, said that the State Government would have to fulfill certain conditions before commencing the tender process.
Ramesh informed that the State Government would need to set up six additional dedicated Programme Implementation Units (PIUs) with additional engineers in addition to the existing four PIUs.
“The State should accelerate the pace of the programme and complete the ongoing works in accordance with the completion plan submitted by the Government,” Ramesh said in a letter addressed to Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma on Wednesday.
He said that the 2nd tier monitoring mechanism should be strengthened in order to ensure quality inspections.
“The State has to prepare a comprehensive maintenance plan to ensure that the assets created under PMGSY are maintained upto the standard,” the Union Minister said.
