SHILLONG: The two KSU leaders – Johny Lyngdoh and Teiborlang Nongbri – who were arrested for their involvement in the April 4 vandalism in the city were released on bail by a city court on Wednesday.
The release of the KSU members followed a meeting of the NGO leaders with East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Goyal here.
During the meeting, the KSU expressed apprehension over the alleged random arrests and raids conducted by police in the residence of KSU members.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, KSU president Daniel Khyriem termed the release of their leaders as a positive development.
According to Khyriem, the Government lawyers did not oppose the bail application of the two leaders.
The two KSU leaders were arrested last week for their alleged involvement in the vandalism that took place during the KSU procession on Khasi National Awakening Day on April 4.
Reacting to a query that the state police have identified four people involved in the torching of Government vehicle, the KSU leader said that they were not aware whether the people who burnt the vehicle are KSU members or not.
The Deputy Commissioner informed that the district administration has impressed upon the NGO to call off their proposed night road blockade from May 10.
The District Administration also made it clear that it will go as per the laws and procedures while dealing with the case.
Meanwhile, the KSU will hold a meeting on Thursday to decide on their future course of action.
